I am very open with sharing and distributing my work. I have made hundreds of illustrations and visualizations to help teach geology, and I am excited for all my work to be used to that end.

Most my images are offered under a derivative of the CC BY-SA license.

That is, I would REALLY appreciate if you attribute me by keeping my Utahgeology.com log on the image or work.

As long as you do that, you can use, modify, remix or even sell (within limits) my work without any royalty fee. I’d just like to be attributed by keeping my website logo on the work.

In some cases, I have traced, or based my work heavily on the work of others who may wish their works to be more tightly copyrighted. In those cases, even where I have altered the work heavily enough that a judge MIGHT rule the work no longer falls under the original authors copyright, out of respect of the original author, I would ask users to NOT use those images (outside of non-published educational purposes) and act as if the images were under the copyright of the original owner.

This is mostly the case for the dynamic stratigraphic columns created from the BYU special publication ‘The Geologic History of Utah, and my paleogeography images based on the work of Ron Blakey and Wayne Ranney.
